10 Baby Necessities For A Healthy First Year

Bringing your newborn home from the hospital is an exciting milestone for new parents, but it can also be overwhelming. There are so many things to prep before they arrive, it often leaves new moms (and dads!) feeling confused. Having the basics ready at home can ease those worries and make the transition from hospital to home stress-free.

To get you started, we’ve rounded up some essential baby health & wellness items you’re going to want on hand in your nursery. Our items are non-toxic, natural and clean so you can keep the environment safe for your little bundle of joy.  You can use this list to add to your baby registry too so you can sit back, relax and enjoy those last few quiet days before your newborn baby pays you a visit.

Here’s a list of baby must-haves you may want on hand before baby comes home:

Nail Clippers

You’ll quickly learn that your baby’s nails grow surprisingly fast, sometimes requiring their first nail trim while still in the hospital! Although thinking about trimming their small, tiny nails may make you nervous, it’s important to keep them short to avoid face scratching. Be prepared ahead of time with nail clippers which are appropriately sized for your baby’s delicate fingers.

Chest Rub for Soothing Relief

Maty’s All Natural Baby Chest Rub is a new mommy must-have for those days filled with little sniffles. It gently soothes and comforts when rubbed on your baby’s chest, neck, or feet. It also helps relax your baby for a peaceful night’s sleep.  (For ages 3 months and older.)

Nasal Aspirator

Newborn congestion is common.  Once your baby is born and they begin to breathe the air you and I breathe, the foreign air particles can aggravate their respiratory systems which causes congestion.  A nasal aspirator is a safe way to help clear out the mucus in your baby’s stuffy nose.

Thermometer

Be sure you get a good working thermometer, you’ll want to know when your little one is coming down with something.

Safe Non-Toxic Baby Moisturizer

Maty’s All Natural Baby Ointment is a safe and gentle way to moisturize your baby’s skin.  We believe it’s the best ointment because the oils in our baby ointment closely resemble the natural oils on your baby’s skin.  (Here’s why that is important.)  It’s also an excellent moisture barrier which will protect your baby’s bottom between every diaper changes and helps with cradle cap.   Moms love using our ointment too!  They often share additional ways they use it like removing makeup, nourishing cracked heels, preventing runner’s chaffing.

Humidifier

Cool-mist humidifiers are essential for use in a nursery when cough and cold symptoms arise! The moist air eases nasal passages which become irritated from the dry winter air.  It also promotes a more restful sleep.

Sunscreen

Whenever in the sun be sure to protect your baby’s skin from the sun’s harmful rays. When they’re first born, you’ll need to keep them in the shade, but when it’s age-appropriate find a  sunscreen with a safe, gentle, and effective formula for a baby’s sensitive skin.  (Recommended for babies 6 months and older.)

Safe, Natural Diaper Rash Ointment

Maty’s Organic Diaper Rash Relief is another must-have for moms looking to use clean, healthy baby skin care products.  It’s a pure, simple, non-toxic way to be prepared for the time your baby will have their inevitable first diaper rash. Our petroleum-free ointment treats and prevents diaper rash with gentle, organic ingredients that are safe for your baby’s skin. It protects chafed skin due to rashes, seals out wetness and is a natural alternative to traditional diaper creams

Clean, Non-Toxic Eczema  Ointment

Maty’s Organic Eczema Ointment is the newest member of our family. It’s made with organic healing ingredients to relieve skin irritation due to eczema. We’re proud to be gluten-free and made without petroleum, hydrogenated oils, fragrances, parabens or phthalates so you can trust our ointment with your little one’s sensitive skin.

First Aid Kit

Having a first aid kit on hand when your baby comes home from the hospital will inevitably come in handy at some point. You never know when their first little scrape will occur whether it’s from their own fingernails or a family pet just trying to cuddle with their new friend.

The arrival of your newborn baby is such an exciting time! Being prepared with these baby essentials before they arrive can help ease any worries and allow you to relax and enjoy the newest addition to your family.
