Can Maty's syrups and capsules be used during pregnancy?
Talk to the doc. We always advise any woman who is pregnant or breastfeeding to consult with her health care provider before using any new products.
Why does it state on your package that the product was made in a “shared-use” facility?
Where we come from matters. A “shared-use” facility means there are other products being made there that share the same manufacturing assembly lines. Rest assured, our facilities are GMP compliant, which means it complies with “Good Manufacturing Practices” set by the FDA. They regulate the manufacturing, audit the facilities often, and have strict guidelines as to how everything in the facility is managed, processed, and cleaned.
Are Maty’s products tested on animals?
No doggone way. Maty’s is against animal testing of any kind and all of our products are cruelty-free. Our products are researched carefully, time-tested, and used by our kids before you get to use them for your kids!
Do your products contain alcohol?
Maty’s products may contain trace amounts of alcohol due to the natural fermentation of our Apple Cider Vinegar. No alcohol is ever 'added' to our products.
How long do Maty's products last after being opened?
The time it takes for a three-year-old to turn six! All of our products have a 3-year shelf life and have expiration dates printed on the bottle or container. Over time, our syrups can get thick (because of the honey), so make sure you shake them vigorously before each use.
Why doesn't Maty's use petroleum?
It has to do with byproducts and baby’s skin. Petroleum jelly is a derivative of oil refining which means it may be contaminated with byproducts during the manufacturing process. Unless all the contaminants are removed, it can potentially be hazardous. Petroleum jelly is really only as good as its refining process and there’s no guarantee manufacturers can get all the impurities out. These byproducts are things we’d never want in our products, including known carcinogens like Polycyclic Aromatic Hydrocarbons (PAHs) and 1,4-Dioxane. At Maty’s, our philosophy is, “If you wouldn’t put it in your baby's mouth, then why would you put it on their skin?” After all, whatever you put on your baby’s skin quickly gets absorbed into their bloodstream. That’s why we use only pure natural oils in our baby products. No toxins. No worries.
Are there nuts or soy in any of your products?
We are nuts about giving you good allergy information. None of our products contain nuts, but the vitamin E we use in many of our topicals is derived from soy. In addition, our products are produced in a shared-use facility, so we cannot guarantee that there is no airborne contact with nuts. That being said, we manufacture our products in a GMP compliant facility which means there are strict FDA regulations for how everything is processed, cleaned, and managed.
What is zinc gluconate and is it natural?
It’s natural, but needs a couple of steps to get to you. Zinc is an essential trace mineral that supports the immune system. It comes from the ground and must be refined and purified before it can be safe for human consumption.
If Maty's Baby Chest Rub is menthol-free, what makes it effective?
Menthol may not be good for all ages. While research suggests menthol can benefit adults by helping the body produce more mucus, this increased mucus flow may cause respiratory distress in babies as their tiny nostrils may not be able to handle it. That’s why Maty’s All Natural Baby Chest Rub combines essential oils that are effective, gentle, soothing, and appropriate for any child over three months. Breathe a sigh of relief.
Is it possible to take too much of Maty's Cough Syrup?
Don’t overdo it. Maty’s cough syrups are made with whole food ingredients and they are naturally drug free. However, we still recommend following the suggested dosage and use guidelines found on the label. It’s been tested to be just what you need to feel better.
Do Maty's Cough Syrups need to be refrigerated?
We’re cool enough on our own. There is no need to refrigerate Maty’s cough syrups, they can safely be stored at room temperature. However, our delicious honey, which is the main ingredient in our cough syrups, may get thicker over time. We recommend shaking the bottle vigorously before each use to ensure an optimal product experience.
Why does your label say to not put Maty's Vapor Rub on your face?
It’s all about the eyes. When we’re talking about anything that can be near your eyes, you can never be too careful. So, we recommend you don’t put Maty’s All Natural Vapor Rub on your face to avoid the possibility of it getting in your eyes, which may cause irritation.

What happens if a child gets some of Maty's Baby Chest Rub or Vapor Rub in their mouth?
No need to panic. If your child happens to eat some of our All Natural Baby Chest Rub or All Natural Vapor Rub, there’s no need for alarm. Since our essential oils are highly diluted, there should not be an issue. However, if you suspect anything wrong with your child or are concerned about how much they ingested, call your pediatrician right away.
Why did you change Maty's Vapor Rub formula?
We’re sensitive to our customers’ needs. We removed wintergreen from Maty’s All Natural Vapor Rub formula because it contains natural plant substances called salicylates. Since many people are sensitive to salicylates, we didn't want to take a chance. We believe our new combination of eucalyptus, peppermint, pine, and tea tree essential oils will work even better than our previous formula, with no worries about sensitivity. If you are a fan of our old vapor rub formula, try our new Maty’s Vapor Rub and let us know what you think.
Are there any side effects from taking Maty’s Cough Syrups?
Maty’s products are unique because they contain whole food ingredients and are naturally drug free. So, they come with lots of benefits for your health and no worries about side effects. However, we always recommend following the suggested use directions on the label and talking to your health care practitioner if you have any concerns.
Why does it look like my Maty's Cough Syrup bottle is only half way full?
You’re getting your fill of goodness. We fill our bottles to 6 Fl. oz. However, since we use pure, whole food ingredients, including honey, they can become thick as they settle. So, we leave the perfect amount of room in our bottles for you to shake well and ensure all of our wholesome ingredients are combined to give you fast, natural relief.
Why do you use buckwheat honey in your Natural Cough Syrups?
Sweet antioxidants. Buckwheat honey is one of the darkest honeys produced in the US and, according to a study by the University of Illinois in 2002, it had the highest antioxidant activity of the honeys tested. That made it the healthiest choice for our cough syrups.
Could I just use plain honey instead of buying Maty's Cough Syrups?
You’d be missing out. You could use honey for anyone over the age of 1. But that teaspoon of honey wouldn’t give you all the other immune supporting ingredients you’ll find in Maty’s Cough Syrups. We’ve spent years developing our formulas to get the most out of our whole food ingredients. Save your honey for your cup of tea.
